Em Need for Speed The Run você tomará parte de uma corrida ilícita entre São Francisco e Nova Iorque — 840 milhas vão separá-lo do seu destino final — enquanto uma força incansável utiliza uma miríade de forças letais para contê-lo.

Entre as maiores novidades do título estão as perseguições a pé. Nesses momento a câmera muda de posição, seguindo o protagonista que agora conta apenas com as duas pernas para escapar de seus perseguidores.
